Honeywell SDSTM Cables

About Honeywell SDSTM

The Smart Distributed System is a bus system that streamlines the installation process by utilizing interoperation of intelligent inputs and outputs. The basic benefits are enhanced diagnostics, robust signal transmission, improved device response time, and overall improved communication between devices. The Smart Distributed System is completely open, modular, and compatible with standard networks, I/O, and many controllers. The network operates with standard industrial control computers, is easily upgradeable, and because of the innovative wiring method -- is easy to install.

Features of SDS Networks

The network can support up to 126 individually addressable devices on a single 4-wire cable. The Smart Distributed System can be integrated with other control solutions by using other CAN integrated circuits or off-the-shelf interface devices. CAN (Controller Area Network) is a protocol that provides a method for both message checking and correction to ensure communication integrity and overall robustness. Using CAN based network hardware keeps costs down because of its wide availability and usage in systems such as automobile's ABS(Anti-lock Brake Sys).

While the SDS components used provide the advanced diagnostic features, non-SDS devices can also be connected to the four-wire cable for communication and power.

Belden Cable for SDS

The Belden cable for SDS is a two pair cable containing a data and power pair under the same overall rugged jacket. Each pair is shielded with a common overall drain wire for maximum signal integrity in noisy industrial environments. The cables are designed according to the Smart Distributed System physical layer specification for conformance and compatibility.
